Storyline
Gullickson, an overanxious, deluded Victorianist, and Wilbur, his
dryly comic, dirty-minded roommate, have a concept that will revive
the great dying art of the comic opera: lesbians. Borrowing a little
from The Pirates of Penzance, a little from Romeo and Juliet, and a
little from late-night cable, their kinky, inept operetta is all they have to live for, the one project upon which they pin all their
grandiose hopes.
Too bad their only chance is an exasperated producer who seems
unimpressed by bawdy songs and bare breasts. As Gullickson and Wilbur bicker and sing their way through a thoroughly doomed pitch, their
absurd little tale dances by in animation. Throw in a cheeky British
narrator who speaks only in limericks -- and whose clumsiness wreaks
unnoticed havoc -- and the result is a backstage comedy of epic --
well, monumental -- at least pretty serious -- okay, goofy
proportions.
